Biography

The Jolly Lamas are a very unique, diverse, relevent and memorable rock band from Southern California. Thier songs can range from sweet heartfelt Ballads (Stars, Every Now and Then, Better Part of Me) to hard rockin anthems (L.O.V.E.U, Yank My Chain, Bring This Mutha Down). Their current songs have a Tom Petty meets Nirvana meets the Beatles raw and emotional feel that have an instant iconic sound to it that's sure to transend through time. (I know.. we're laying it on pretty thick at this point!)

The Lamas music has had numerous independent cuts played on regular rotation on Radio Stations across America and Canada as well and local and regional attention in their homebase in Southern California. The Jolly Lamas are currenty writing and recording for thier third album as well as various studio projects. They occasionally perform at various venues throughout Southern California.

Recent History:

Benjamin Jacobs was the former lead guitarist for the Christian Rock Band 'Mad At The World' for the final two studio albums, The Ferris Wheel (1993) and The Dreamland Cafe (1995). Ben was also the lead guitarist of Randy Rose's metal band Rose at the same time. Ben was invited to join MATW after its original guitarist, Brent Gordon, had left.

After the disbandment of MATW, Jacobs formed the band The Jolly Lamas in Southern California. Chris Ford was recruited to play guitar, Bob Hall played drums and Doug Shipley was the original Bassist for the band. Their debut album Two Seconds to the Moon was produced and mixed by Roger and Randy Rose.

Two Seconds to the Moon earned the Jolly Lamas a nomination for "Best Local Recording" at the 1998 San Diego Music Awards, and another nomination in 2001 for best adult alternative album. This album also received attention from motion picture and television industries when the song "Yank My Chain" was featured in the indie classic The Others (1997) and the song "Football Hero" was performed on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

The Jolly Lamas played extensively throughout Southern California at familiar venues; Roxy, The Key Club, Martini Lounge, Brick by Brick, Tee Casbah, Tio Leo's, Superbowl Fest.. just to name a few. At that time the Lamas made several radio 91x and TV appearences (FOX San Diego) promoting the band. Through that time the band went through several line-up changes. Notably the addition of Ken Haile on Drums and Gary Hopkins on Bass.

With the release of Coming Back (the second Jolly Lamas offering) in 2005, the band switched out memmbers once again with the addition of bassist Anton Jacobs. (they are beginning to sound like spinal tap.. i know)

Today, Benjamin Jacobs and the Jolly Lamas are still very busy creating music for various outlets and multimedia projects. The latest being the very popular 'Rockin the Standards' educational project.
